The LED specialists at Simple Lighting co. have responded to an interview between Stephen Lacey and Ed Crawford, CEO of Philips Lighting, North America, in which the latter discusses the changing role of lighting in society.
“Crawford also goes on to explain how lighting is no longer simply about general illumination- it is becoming less of a function and more of an emotional product”
Crawford explain how LEDs are a major turning point for the lighting industry. Speaking in particular about the launch of Hue, he claims that what excites the company the most about light emitting diodes is the level of controllability, describing it as “the birth of controllability [that goes further] than dimming- whether that’s colour, or using an app to make the lights react to music, or setting your iPhone clock so that you can wake to the lights coming on in your room.”
Crawford also goes on to explain how lighting is no longer simply about general illumination- it is becoming less of a function and more of an emotional product. He claims that Philips, one of the world’s leading lighting companies, is beginning to think more about how their consumers interact with their products.
Online retailer, Simple Lighting, offers a vast range of LED tape lighting and strip lighting as well as LED products that are suitable throughout the home and garden. Having been involved within the industry for a number of years, the team have witnessed first-hand how LEDs have revolutionised the lighting industry. A representative from the firm shares their thoughts on the matter.
“Naturally we were interested to hear Ed Crawford’s view on the lighting industry as a whole. In particular we share his beliefs over the abilities of LEDs to change the look and feel of a room or building. This is because LEDs come in different sizes, colours and brightness, allowing consumers to customise their lighting.
“At Simple Lighting, we offer a range of versatile LED lighting at prices often well below the recommended retail price.”
