Montrose Unified School District
Located on the the Western slope of Colorado’s Rocky Mountains. This school district is made up of 18 buildings spread out across 10 square miles.
1. Client Challenge:
The Montrose School district facilities contained a wide variety of outdated lighting technology and were in need of an upgrade. Most of the existing lighting was made up of first generation T8 and even some T12 Fluorescent lighting. The plan was to incorporate high efficiency T8 technology and controls for their classrooms and offices spanning almost 1,000,000 square feet.
RTS performed an audit of all eighteen structures including exterior wall packs, courtyards, and parking lots. RTS evaluated vast numbers of variables such as how the space will be used, amount of day-light, load potential, dimming, lamp color, initial cost, and cost to maintain moving forward.
2. Lighting Solution:
Retro-Tech performed a lighting upgrade in all 18 Buildings including all exterior lighting. This lighting project was performed in order to retrofit all 2×4 troffer fixtures and install new lighting controls with new LED luminaries installed in many of the exterior applications. The upgrade included new high bay fluorescent fixtures in all of the gyms. In total more than 8,000 fixtures were either retrofitted or replaced with new energy saving technology.
3. The Results:
The overall result was extremely impressive. The entire school district now has a lighting system consisting of high efficiency T8 fluorescent and new LED fixtures and lamps with occupancy controls throughout. In summary this project reduced the facilities kwh consumption by more than 1,000,000 kwh annually.
