East Hartford council to take up energy contract

After tabling a vote on a new energy performance contract due to what some Town Council members called a lack of information on cost savings, the council will re-address the issue at its Tuesday meeting.

On July 15, the council tabled a discussion on whether the town should enter into a contract with Ameresco Inc., the largest independent energy service company in North America, which would cost an estimated $4.2 million, with an estimated savings of $6.6 million over 15 years.

Council Chairman Richard Kehoe said today he voted to table the discussion because the $6.6 million figure was estimated assuming a 3 percent increase in energy prices over the 15-year period.
